The Lighter Side

My Black Friday Premonition

Remember this entry from Black Friday one year ago?  I know that Black Friday is long over, as we get closer and closer to the consumer rush of the Holidays.  Before you head out into that mall to satiate your loved ones’ desires for more stuff, check out the entry I wrote a year ago.  And also check out this news story, which you have probably heard about by now.

For those who do not feel like taking the time to actually read the story, a Wal-mart employee was trampled to death on Black Friday by shoppers this year (2008).

Here is a snippet of my entry from 2007 about Black Friday.  I am not making this up:

Many have been injured on this day. Some have probably died. Black Friday certainly lived up to it’s name for the families of those unfortunate souls.

“Poor Harold was trampled to death in front of Wal-Mart by hundreds of women rushing to get shoes for their kids at 40% off!”

Yeah.  Weird huh?  Goes to show you that there is no limit to human stupidity.  Or, apparently, my psychic powers!  Kidding of course.  It is a really sad story – and hopefully some people will start to take notice of the madness that grips people around this time of year.

Before I go, I’ll leave you with another strange coincidence:

The Great Office Escape was born on July 24th, 2007.  At the time I was trying to inspire myself to become more or less self-employed and make my own income rather than be a slave to the rat race.

One year later to the day, July 24th 2008 was my LAST DAY working a 9 to 5.  Very eerie, huh?  It took me exactly a year.  I actually love the company I worked for at the time, and still work with them on a remote basis.

Cue spooky Twighlight-zone music.

Life is strange.
